Referrals via your GP

Domestic Abuse and Violence is a health issue and impacts a person’s physical and mental health.

If your GP has referred you to Safe in Salford we will support you.

If you are registered with a Salford GP practice, you can also self-refer into the IRIS service.

How will you contact me?

After we receive the referral from your GP practice, we will get in touch on the first working day of the week (once your case has been allocated).

IRIS do not have a waiting list, you will allocated a support worker quickly .

We will attempt 6 times over a two-week period to make contact to offer ongoing support.


The GP practice will be updated throughout support and will be made aware when the support has been completed.

Once we have made initial contact, we will arrange to complete an assessment at the earliest opportunity, this can be done over the phone or face to face at your GP practice.


Some of the types of support we can offer;

Safety – Safety App, Clare’s law. referrals into MARAC if case is deemed high risk.
Health – Liaising with medical professionals following the IRIS pathway, advocating for patients physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Civil – Support with civil orders, occupation order, non-molestation order and child arrangement orders.

Criminal – Liaising with police for updates on ongoing criminal investigations
Immigration – referral to specialist immigration services
Children – referral into Children social care, attending child in need meetings and child protection and refer into Harbour.
Financial support – signpost for support with finances, debt advice, budgeting.
Housing support – Liaising with Salford housing options, support with housing applications. Advice on emergency accommodation, referral into refuge.
